Uppsala university, Department of cell and molecular biology

Uppsala University is an international research university focused on the development of science and education. Our most important assets are all the individuals who with their curiosity and their dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting work places. Uppsala University has 40,000 students, 7,000 employees and a turnover of SEK 6,5 billion.

The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology (ICM) of Uppsala University is one of the most international, interdisciplinary and successful research departments in molecular biosciences in Europe including for example 5 ERC funded PIs.

Duties:
The Deindl research group (deindl-lab.com) is recruiting postdoctoral researchers that want to develop and apply novel single-molecule microscopy methods to study the regulation and function of nucleic-acid interacting proteins. We offer a stimulating research environment where a major focus is on the mechanisms of nucleic-acid interacting enzymes whose aberrant function is associated with severe diseases such as cancer. We also combine high-resolution single-molecule investigations with biochemical experiments to study sequence-specific search kinetics in order to decipher the regulatory genetic codes.

We are ambitious in our effort to generate internationally competitive research at the forefront of our discipline. We are now hiring highly motivated researchers that want to join our mission. The positions are initially for one year but come with good possibilities for extension.

We are particularly looking for researchers with experience in:

  • Molecular biology: Projects related to understanding the dynamic regulation of DNA-interacting protein machines. Typical background: molecular biology/biochemistry.
  • Single-molecule biophysics: Projects related to characterization of molecular dynamics in vitro. Typical background: experimental biophysics

If you do not find yourself in these categories but have a strong research track record and a passion for science, please send us an e-mail outlining your research interest and background anyway!

Requirements:

  • Creative and self-motivated personality with interest in fundamental science
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Good team working skills
  • PhD in relevant subject area
  • Excellent communication skills in English

Additional qualifications/Qualification desired:

  • Documented experience of solving complex scientific or technical problems in at least one of the areas outlined above.

Application should include:

  • Cover letter (max 1 page) where you describe in which category you would fit and why.
  • CV including list of publications
  • Names, e-mail addresses, and telephone numbers for three reference persons.
