The PhD position will be placed at the Comparative Physiology research program, in a research group studying invertebrate immunity and blood cell formation.

Duties: Blood cells play a key role in the invertebrates to prevent microbes from damaging the animal. The research group studies how the formation of these blood cells / hemocytes is regulated, and how the stem cells that generate hemocytes are also involved in nerve cell formation in adult animals. The main focus for this project is to understand the hematopoietic process and adult neurogenesis in invertebrates using the freshwater crayfish Pacifastacus leniusculus as a model animal. The PhD student will focus on this connection between the circulatory and the nervous system by studies of hematopoiesis in Pacifastacus leniusculus.

Requirements: A Master degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field is a requirement. The ideal candidate has high motivation, a solid education and a great interest in immunology, and stem cell development. Previous experience in molecular biology, biochemistry or cell biology. The candidate must be fluent in English in speech and writing.

In filling this position, the university aims to recruit the person who, in the combined evaluation of competence, skills and documented qualifications, is judged most suitable to carry out and develop the work-in-hand and to contribute to a positive development of the department.
